Haggling as a seller

Hi there

Bit of a weird question forgive me if this is not in the right place???
I've scrapped my 1998 Nissan micra and I'm trying to make some money back by selling the wheels which are 13" sport alloys with nearly new tyres (bought last April). I was advised to ask for £130 for them but knowing nothing about cars does this sound about right?
I have them up on a local selling website and someone has offered £100 for them. I have only ever haggled as a buyer trying to get something as cheap as I can, so as a seller how do I get the most out of the deal.

Any tips?

All depends on the make/model of wheels as well as the make/model of tyre as to what you will get for them.

If the alloys and tyres are cheap Chinese crap then don't expect a lot, however if they are decent brands then you can expect to get a bit more.

Without knowing what you have it is impossible to say what a reasonable price is.

How will I know if they are a brand? What brands are good and what are rubbish?

you should have listed them at £150 buyer would have haggled you down to £130 you would have sold them at the price you were after and buyer thinks they are getting a deal. post the name of the tyre I am sure someone will tell you if its a good make.

If your happy with £100 then tell them if its a quick deal, They come quickly with cash then deal done.

If they take too long they maybe too slow.

    Name the tyre brands?

13" tyres for a micra are cheap anyway. Even premium brands. So not worth a huge amount.

Tell the bidder you will meet them in the middle at £115, or let them go for £100, or you can hold out and hope that someone else wants them.

Reading the manufacturer name or make/model off the side of the tyres would probably be a good start, same applies to the wheels (assuming they are a brand name to start with).

The other thing to consider is the condition of the wheels, if they are showing signs of kerbing damage (most alloys do) then that will also have a negative impact on the selling price (the negativity being directly proportional to the damage of course).

Assuming the alloys have only minor scuffs and that the tyres aren't cheap Chinese ditchfinders, I'd say you'd be looking at £100 (or as near as) for all four.

Just be happy with £100 and be done with it imo.
  • Watch out for people texting that they will buy them for asking price and can come now etc. Then when they turn up they try and haggle you down. I've had that before. Time wasters.
