I am currently on the standard tariff for gas and electricity and got an email about seeing if I could go on a cheaper tariff. My annual spend is £869.68 and it recommends the Online Variable May 2014.

Should I switch?

Thanks

Yes, because you are currently on the most expensive tariff (Standard), so paying far more than you need to.
But why restrict yourself to BG tariffs? Just put your annual kWh figures and postcode into any comp site to find the cheapest market tariff. Then switch via a cashback site.
The only other choice to make is whether to go for a variable or fixed tariff.

Agree feed your actual usage in KWH not in £££ into price comparison sites.
