have downloaded spy-bot but when trying keep getting message "you need to install detection updates first " then when going to updates get the message error retrieving files socket error # 11004
any help please. using windows xp home and internet explorer, windows firewall

It may be that the specific server you are trying to download updates from is overloaded. Try a different one -

It is also possible that your firewall is blocking the connection -

Hi,

You should be able to select a different source for the files from the drop down list at the top. I find not all are always active.
