Car Free Blackpool Holiday

Hello,

I have booked for us (me hubby and 2 kids) to go to Blackpool in the October half term to see the lights :D very giddy!

Do you think its possible to still have a great holiday and leave the car at home? how do-able is blackpool without transport. I have never been and keep hearing different views.

Thank you

Which part of town are you staying in?

So long as it is close to the Promenade you should have no issues. It is all flat and you can walk from North Pier down to the Pleasure Beach ( the so called golden mile) in about 35 minutes.

Then there are the trams and buses (don't forget to research family and day tickets for these).

The Zoo, Model Village and Stanley Park are a little way out of town but you can get a bus from next to the Tower.

TBH, during the Illuminations you are better being without your car.

Blackpool North station is about 10-15 minutes walk from North Pier.

From North Pier you can catch trams up to Fleetwood & down to Squires Gate (the 2 ends of the line). You can buy family tickets & 3-day tickets in advance here.

The Sandcastle Waterpark is a fab day out for all the family - can pre-book in advance here to guarantee your entry - vital during school holidays!

The Pleasure Beach will also be open here - again, book your wristbands as it is cheaper.

If you think you will visit everything, consider a Resort Pass - look here for more info.

The only thing I would add is to book early - it will be busy! Oh, and bring waterproofs and extra layers, so you are prepared for Illuminations weather!

As others have said doing Blackpool without transport is very doable as there is plenty of regular public transpot. The trams do get very busy tho so dont be suprised if you have to wait to get on one. It will be FREEZING (or normally is lol) so make sure you take hat/scarfs and warm clothing.

If you want to go to the zoo there are buses that drop you off right outside and if you want to go to Fleetwood market (huge market) there are also buses to take you there and if you go to Fleetwood Market theres also Freeport shopping village just up the road from it and I love shopping there.

I always tell people you will either love Blackpool or hate it...........im a lover :D

We are stopping in at Cala Gran, got a bargain with the price for a week compared to what some hotels wanted just for a couple of nights.

The Cala Gran is Fleetwood not Blackpool.
There is a Bus Stop right outside though, it is the No 14.

You can't catch the 14 from the train station, but it is only about 5 minutes walk to the nearest stop on Clifton St, just make sure you get on the Fleetwood bound one!

I would definitely be buying saver tickets if you are staying that far out.

The Cala Gran Haven is in Fleetwood, can you change to the Haven at Marton Mere, it is closer and much nicer.
No problem not having a car, when the illuminations are on it's murder driving in Blackpool.

cala gran is a distance away, from Blackpool, but once your in one the bus you can get everywhere by tram.

if you do have the car with you I can highly recommend a little farm called Farmer Parrs - its towards fleetwood, i went a few yrs ago, I ended up chatting to a lady from mse who lived in Blackpool, - she had her grandson staying her, I was on hol with DD, we went out and about for a couple of trips. The kids loved Farmer Parrs, - little working farm, and the kids can pet the animals,

We went to Fleetwood market and Freeport for shopping.

then DD and I got a tram pass and went around Blackpool and went back to Fleetwood on the tram.

On the front down towards South Pier the tram stop is McDonalds - theres a really nice cafe (great value) in the front of it is a palm reader called Lavinua (thats how I know where I am). Kids meals great value, and adults are good priced as well. a friend of mine goes up every year and eats at the same cafe as well xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
