Charge an entry fee.
Get local businesses involved and charge them for pitches.0 -
Sounds like a commercial event, so think commercially! You need to have cash upfront to fund the whole thing and then recoup from stall holder's, people buying tickets etc. You might also try selling sponsorship opportunities, however to do that you need to represent a good promotional return for the sponsor eg be able to show you have local tv involved, have x thousand ticket sales, etc.
That's what being a promoter involves (and yes, it is risky!). Just in case you haven't broached the subject of location yet, you may well find you need a license from the council, and for that you need to demonstrate safety plans, water and waste management, toilets, transport, etc. Search for 'events purple book' which will act as a starting point, however I'd still recommend getting professional help if the festival will be of licensable size0 -
You missed insurance, paddy ... I know it could be included in the 'etc', but it's pretty essential!Signature removed for peace of mind0
