No claims bonus help :)

I was with Bell (10 months booster) when I had my last car insurance, since I left them after not having a car for a period of time I never updated my address with them. They sent my no claims documents to my old address, when I contacted the new owners they told me they chucked the documents away.

When I rang up Bell insurance they say they will not give me a replacement as I failed to update my address.

So now if I go with Tesco insurance, should I tell them I have 1 years no claims? can they then get what they need from Bell or do I need to send them the documents?

With this no claims it would cost around £150 less for my insurance on my new car, so could definitely do with it.

Hope that's not too much to read :) and a big thanks to anyone that replies to this :j

Some insurers dont check NCD until claim stage, some will do the calling around for you, others will only accept it as a paper record from you. Ultimately they are within their rights to ask you to provide it and if you cant then you are gambling by saying you can.

Get Bell to resend them, tell your old address that they're coming and go and pick them up? Setting up a mail redirection for a few months, if not a year, is always sensible when moving home.

Why not just phone Tesco, tell them your situation, tell them you can give them your old policy number and see what they say?

By the way, how long ago did the Bell policy expire? Most insurers will only accept bonus that is less than 2 years old....
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
  • thanks everyone, it expired almost 2 years ago now so would be tight anyway :)

You'll need to ask tesco if they accept 10month booster as equivalent to 1 year.

As above a 10 month booster policy may not apply and with no proof you maybe heading for trouble.

You pay for the policy and with your documents you get a note saying please provide proof of no claims within 14 days.

You cannot and they cancel the policy or charge you 4 times as much. If you do manage to get proof and get it to them before the deadline they may say we cannot accept that ony full 12 months no claims count and cancel or charge you 4x as much.

If they cancel the policy you declare that forever and pay a lot more, And a lot of insurers wont touch you.
