I believe the point was trying to help the OP not make the same mistake again in the future and to live within his means. However, if you're happy to encourage the cycle to repeat, then so be it.

I thought the point of the post was to look at what they will be submitting to the court but as someone more knowledgeable pointed out (whether you, me or anyone else agrees with it) as their income is based on benefits it is irrelevant what they spend their money on as they will not be asked to pay into an IPA.

If you have ever gone through bankruptcy for what ever reason I am sure you will understand that no-one is looking to repeat the experiance. Bankruptcy is for the OP to get bank on their feet. The couple in question may of fed themselves on £100 a month for the last 10 years trying to pay their debts off and getting nowhere we will never know.

I put down £450 a month on my SOA for myself and 2 children (12 & 8)I really dont think this is enough, I did a weekly shop on Friday which was £95 and this didnt include meat, or washing powder. And before I am struck by lightening or a clap of thunder I do cook from scratch,I plan meals and but I refuse to eat 12p burgers and rubbish meat!

I'll agree that the discussion has drifted off topic. Of course, I'll also agree bankruptcy is not a nice thing to go through, but seeing an SoA like this upsets me as there's no apparent commitment to trying to avoid the situation in the first place. But then, if it's not your own money, why bother?

Anyway, I'll duck out and let others contribute towards the requested response.

    ShaLLaX,

I think we're just coming at it from different angles. I'm looking at it purely from an IPA perspective and what's allowed when determine an IPA, whereas I think your looking at it from a budgeting perspective. I did not mean the discussion around groceries was irrelevant period, just that it was not relevant to the OP as he won't get an IPA if the SOA he posted was correct.

I spend £600 a month on groceries, thats for 2 adults and 5 children. This also includes nappies and baby milk, washing powder and cleaning products. We also have to buy items for the kids packing up for school. £500 does seem alot for 2 people. I am now however wishing I put more down on my SOA then I maybe wouldnt have got an £85 IPA.

I just want to say I was not having a go about the food amount they put the s.o.a. up and asked for advice I thought it would be too much and not allowed but as pointed out as they are on benefits it does not matter so its pointless really.....I certainly did not mean to upset anyone, most of us have or are still going through the process and we are here to help. I wish you well xx

I understand that when needs must we cut our cloth according to what we have to do, however the legal test is that the bankrupt must be left with sufficient funds for the reasonable domestic needs of themselves and their family.
It is not about scrimping and saving it is about a reasonable standard of living that rules out the need for further credit.
I know that the IS would not challenge me in court with £500 housekeeping for 2 people. I could win that hands down in court.
I also wonder where the op has gone since his assasination of his life on benefits.
Sometimes the biggest enemy of the 'working classes' are the working classes themselves.

So " working class" is classed as being on benefits, Surely it should be benefit class.
    Sorry.
