Memebers dropping from group hol problem!

Hi guys. Il keep all the details basic or il bore you to tears!

I booked a stag do holiday for 25 people in October. Deposit was £100 pp. This was collected and paid to Low cost holidays.

The date to pay the remainder off the price is this week. We have collected the rest of the money off 23 lads who are traveling with us. Unfortunately, 2 lads have dropped out.

I have booked many holidays and had people dropping out etc. My understanding was that the lads who have dropped out have lost their deposit and that the other lads price wouldn't be affected?

We have contacted low cost today to pay the balance and they are saying that the remaining balance from the two lads who have dropped out holiday has to be spread over the 23 lads going!!! This can't be right surely? (This will work out at £610 = £26pp)

They say the rooms have gone up in price but why would that be our problem? They've gained £200 and they get to sell the rooms/flights again now so they will make a good profit from the lads dropping out.

Currently waiting for the manager to call me back but can I have your opinions with wether you think they are wrong (or right?!)

Thanks

No-one here can tell you that as we cannot see the T&Cs that you agreed to when you booked. You need to check your T&C's.

Did you book all the holidays in your name, or in each individual's name separately? If separately then the cost of the holiday remains the liability of the individuals who have dropped out. If you booked a group holiday in your own name, then the liability rests with you personally, since it is you who has entered into the contract with the company, in which case the suggestion to spread the cost among the others works in your favour!

    Hi,

Without knowing the full details it is difficult to give an exact response however, what normally happens is that you are charged per room regardless of how many people are staying in it (more so for self catering).
So for example if you are staying in a 1 bedroom apartment the cost for that apartment is 100 (e.g) split by 4 people it becomes 25per person but split by 3 people it increases to 33.33 per person.

I suspect that this is what has happened in this case. The holiday itself hasnt increased its that the people sharing has decreased.

if the flights are booked on a lowcost airline such as easyjet or ryanair, these are not possible to cancel so the holiday company are not making more money on this in any way. Unfortunately there is not much you can do in this situation.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the replies. An update.....

Good news in the end. After waiting for a manager to call us we tried ringing again. Got through to a different person who agreed with us and has amended the cost of the holiday. The two members who dropped out have lost their deposit but the money they would owe to the total cost of the holiday has been deducted.

The lady said that the other operators must have misunderstood us which I find wierd. Anyway we now have a new total cost for the lads going and all is well!
