Toe nail removal on a child question....

Hi,
I'm not looking for medical advice, I'm just wondering if anyone's child or teenager has had their toe nail removed? If so can you tell me was it done under local or general anersetic ?
Thanks x

  • Dd1 had part of hers removed. It was under local.

But, as a redhead, she didn't respond to the first anaesthetic, so had to have an alternative one.

  • Hi, my son had an ingrown toe nail removed and it was done under local.
  • Expect lot of screaming. If it needs doing it needs doing but when the needles for the anesthetic are put in I can tell you its really painful.

I had part of mine removed as a child under local. It was not pleasant.
  • Get a prescription for anaesthetic (emla) cream and a dressing beforehand. Or ask if they'll use a numbing spray.

Scare stories are not going to help.

  • My son was 15 at the time and he was fine. He did say it was painfull but it wasnt that bad, they numbed it beforehand etc and he said it hurt after that wore off, but painkillers and a numbing cream afterwards and a week off school and he was happy :) especially as we were running around after him and he was on his playstation. (hes 26 now lol)

I was 17 at the time I had mine taken off, local anesthetic, it wasn't "painful" more annoying for the first week or so after the event, it's just like when you bite/clip off too much of your finger nail. Within 5 weeks I'd played a gig & was back to normal thankfully as I'm sure I'd have looked sharp wearing a pair of slippers in the prom photo!

He's had cellulitis in it and now it's sceptic so I can't imadgine it will be any more painful that that :-) x

my 16 year old had most, but not all, of his toenail removed last year, under local, he did have Emla anaesthetic cream but still felt the injections, there were 2, he did yell a bit because the needles did hurt, but as soon as the anaesthetic kicked in, he didn't feel a thing.

my sons friend had two toenails removed - and I am pretty sure it was under a general anaesthetic - but at a day surgical unit. I do know they were rather septic and it was done almost as an emergency.
