Table Pouncer

Not sure if anyone's posted about this website before, but it's called Table Pouncer and apparently you can book last minute dinner tables for ridiculous discounts (eg: 50% off food), in some cities (Bristol, London, Bath, Reading, etc).

I haven't tried it out yet but I really want to, because it sounds amazing.

Has anyone else tried it/would recommend it?

I was in a restaurant a while ago I overheard the people at the table next to me saying they were on a Table Pouncer deal (of 50% off) so when I got home I looked it up. You can only book for the same day or next day and there are limited numbers of tables. You pay a non-refundable booking fee of £2.50 (PER PERSON! this is not clearly stated as a per person rate on the website), this is not a contribution to your bill it is a fee to the website.
The deals vary from about 35% off to 50% off (certainly in Bath where I am based). The restaurants that they have on their books are actually pretty good ones though, ones I have chosen to eat in before.
I have decided to give it a try so have booked a 50% off table for tomorrow night. Will let you know it goes!
  • What does this offer that other schemes (eg toptable) which do not charge a fee or which charge an annual fee (eg tastecard) do not? At face value this is no a cost-effective option.....
  • You could just try toptable instead. I regularly book on there; there's an option in which you click to only show offers, one such is 50% off food - nowhere seems to extend the discount to drinks, alas, but 50% off food suddenly makes a mid-range restaurant really very reasonable indeed.

The special feature of this Web site (launched with razzmatazz and money) seems to be deals for unsold tables for the next 2 days, rather than the straightforward discount offers from Toptable and others. At a quick glance, however, it seemed to have a number of regulars I know from Toptable, etc.; couldn't check in detail due to quick popup. The Web site refused to let me do much without registering - kept popping up an automatic "register now" popup, obscuring other content, though I've got popups blocked. Has anybody got any actual information? Giving this irritating site a miss for now.
  • Read this forum before using the service and was a bit apprehensive as there was no positive confirmation that it works from the forum.
So I tried it in the Hilton Hotel restaurant Southampton (The Pavilion its called) during the boat show.
Paid £7.50 booking fee for 3 people and got over £32 discount for three meals, so basically we got one three course meal for free.
No problem showing my SMS with the confirmation when arriving.
Yes there was some awkwardness when I paid as I had to remind the waiter to apply the 50% discount across all three meals.
He spoke to the manager and the discount was applied without any further questions or debates.
If you are ashamed of discount codes this is not for you. If not, then this works a treat!
