Gas and Electricity Meters
Options
I wonder if somebody could please clarify something for me.
We have lived in our house for 22 years now and have never had either meter checked or changed. Is this normal?
A work colleague was telling me that BG have checked her meter twice in the 9 years that she has lived in her house.
Are there any hard and fast rules regarding meters? If so, is it down to your supplier of gas and electricity?
Just wondered:)

Meters are supposed to be read every two years, do you mean checked for faults tho? AFAIK that is only done if the customer reports a problem. I would have expected you would have had a new meter by now, I've just had one after about nine or ten years. Have you telephoned the supplier to ask what their plans are?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Sorry if I wasn't too clear. No I didn't mean it being read by the supplier to do the bills, this is done quite regularly.
I meant should it be checked to see if it is OK. It is just that 22 years seems a long time to have a meter in situ without it being serviced (are meters serviced?) or updated. Just wondered:o
I am with EDF for gas and electricity, but presumably as they are only the supplier they are not responsible for the actual meters.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
It's 'checked' by the meter reader, but it's purely a visual inspection-more to detect tampering than anything else.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Their is a shelf like, and really your supplier should be soon replacing it for a metric u6 meterDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

There is still a vast number of old meters around, imperial gas meters and electric dial meters. The meters are not actually owned by any suppliers, you can switch suppliers all year if you fancy. Our checks are strictly limited to a quick visual inspection focussing mainly on meter tampers and any obvious meter faults.Bg have been installing "smart " meters for the last three years in my area, and I would expect that any change of meter now you would be getting them.0
