I had a mini battery on a V8 Rover. Worked fine.

If it didnt start 1st time everytime things would have been different though. It wouldnt have lasted long cranking that big engine over.

Assuming AA man was correct, you would need to ask Halfords what they would do. At one point they were very anxious to never fall out with a customer and would give refunds on stuff that has clearly never been near a Halfords store (supermarket own-brand oil for example).

It's unlikely as others have said, but wouldn't be the first time. I bought new sidelamp bulbs for my car based on their guide, but they weren't correct. When I went back to swap them, they swapped them without trouble (only a few days later and with a receipt) but commented that my car must have been modified from standard, which it has not.

But the fact that it's been OK for six months suggests it is more likely something else.

Seriously, a battery cannot knacker an alternator. However, an alternator can knacker a battery.

AA patrolmen sell batteries and get a commission on them. If your new battery from Halfords fitted the battery tray and the connections, then in all probability it was the right battery.

Bit of both actually.. Battery cells shorting out can overload an alternator.
Overcharging alternator can boil the battery dry. Undercharging and it gets flattened. Left in that state it degrades.

Have to say going by my experience I don't really agree with you on this comment ( granted not all AA patrolman will be the same I suppose) On the occasions I have had to call out the AA I have found the response pretty good and the guys who attended knowledgible, there was also one in particular who would give advice on what to do to help stop you having the same type of breakdown again, none of them have ever tried to sell me anything, Now the RAC, that's a different story :(
