Hi, I painted my stairs skirting boards with satin wood yesterday, Womble likes it lie at the bottom of the stairs so I created a barrier, the little so and so got past it and snuggled into the corner at the bottom of the stairs!
His whole right side is covered in paint. I have tried to wipe it off and brushed as much out as I can, but his coat is a lovely grey colour now, I can't bath him because I painted the bathroom, also i can't pick him up to get up the stairs and he can nno longer get up them himself. this stuff is like glue on your hands water seems to make it worse. I guess it is a trip to the groomer!
How did he managed to get past a box and a chair? I think he is having me on half the time with his old dog act

Ha ha, bless him.
Here's some suggestions but they sound a bit messy!

In my experience, it'll need cutting out.
Dogs will go to extraordinary lengths to create hassle for you, and paint is an opportunity they just can't miss!0 -
Is satin wood is like gloss??
Try oil, I was at first going to suggest baby oil (it works in my hair!) but not sure how that would be for the dog, I cant see why any other kind of oil wouldn't work so try a food grade one. Then once most of the paint is out, shampoo on to dry fur add water gradually to lather.
Should result in a very shiny dog!
Good luck :-)0 -
I've had so many painted cats that I now only use water based paints in my house - they are much easier to clean off and much less smelly I find too!Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
Sorry I can't offer any cleaning advice but I would suggest that you try water based paint in future. I now use acrylic gloss paint (very like a satin finish)- it may not be as hard wearing as oil based but it dries quicker so not so many chances of painting the dogs!!
I'm thinking you will have to cut off the painted fur...or let it grow out?Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

The groomers is at the bottom of the street, she says it will just be constant brushing with a pin brush / slicker is the best for this kind of paint.
Will try the oil / Vaseline though!0 -
Have you tried white spirit? It's what my mum always used to use (e.g. http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=299126).
If that doesn't work, the fur will probably have to be snipped off - but it'll soon re-grow. I think the main risk may arise if Womble tries to nibble/lick/chew it off himself.
But I'm sure it will be fairly easy to remedy. Poor Womble - he probably smelled the paint on your clothes and wanted to make himself smell the same to show his affection for you. Bless him.
Good luck with the decorating and with your over-eager canine "helper"

look on the paint tin - if it says oil based paint then oil will dilute it and you can keep working oil in (sunflower or any cooking oil), and wiping it off - then work dog shampoo in and bath off the residue. if it is oil then any water will make it worse.
if its water based then it should it come out with a good bath! and generous application of mild dog shampoo. (did you all know that dog shampoo is much milder than human shampoo? I found that out when I got allergic to some shampoo and found that the dogs didn't cause any reaction at all!).0 -
Probably a bit late now, but don't use white spirit, it's poisonous and dogs can absorb it through their skin. I used a piece of kitchen towel dipped in white spirit to wipe paint off my dog's paw, then rinsed his paw in water straight after. Half an hour later he couldn't walk straight, his legs were spasming as if he was having a fit. The vets warned me there was nothing they could do except put him on a drip to support his kidneys, and suggested I leave him overnight to see how he was - and it was one of the longest nights I've ever had.... He's OK now, but I felt incredibly guilty that I'd used something toxic on him.
No disrespect to RuthnJasper - maybe the strength of white spirit has been increased over the years, or maybe your dogs were hardier, but I've had a bad experience, and the vet said baby oil or shaving the fur was the way to go.0 -
Get a bic razor.... shave him.0
