I guess I'll have to look at some in a showroom to see what they look like in the flesh though the photos of the stone and marble effect ones looked good to me.
I'm more interested in the practicalities of installing them as I am a bit of a perfectionist and not so experienced so DIY takes some time; I was thinking a first attempt at tiling may not be a good idea.Solar install June 2022, Bath

I watched plumber and joiner install them, they're definitely a two-person job.0 -
just an opinion, but i don't like the appearance of them. even the expensive ones.
Installing them isn't as easy as is often implied. You have to be very accurate when cutting\shaping the sheet, and if you go wrong you need a full new sheet. The other thing i hate about them is the trim that you have to use in the corners and around the window etc.
Once installed i personally feel the room has the feel of an old BBC sitcom set, push the wall and it moves and sounds hollow!
Contrary to popular belief tiles aren't installed to waterproof an area, the background should be tanked before installation. Unless you have no joints in the shower area then the same applies to panels.
Of course this is all personal preference so if you prefer the look then go for it, but if your only looking to make it easier or to save money then change where you are looking for tiles, you'll find some cracking deals if you look hard enough. (keystone -i'm sure your smiling as you read this!)
Replacing the damaged p/board, then tanking the wet areas and tiling isn't that hard if your half decent at DIY. Dont go for massive porcelain slabs and its really not that hard if you take your time.
Note that you dont need to (and shouldnt) plaster before tiling.0 -
I love my sparkly black ones, much nicer than granny style tiles
