will my critical illness cover pay out?

hi

i have had life insurance with axa for seven years.i added critical illness cover 12 months ago when i reviewed my insurance policy due to check i would be covered working in a war zone and realised i didnt have critical illness cover.

12 months i have been diagnosed with ms. i had no previous symptoms and was completley truthfull on my application. in fact i have never been off work sick in the past ten years and have only previously attended the doctors in the last ten years twice, once for a torn ankle ligament and the other to have a non malignant mole removed.my ms was diagnosed afer visiting the opticians as my sight had become blurry coupled with a tingling sensation in my face.

my mother has ms but this was disclosed on acceptance.

i have just sent my claim off to axa but the reason i ask is i have heard horror stories of non payment for 'early' claims?

thanks

amy

They investigate early claims more closely as people often apply when they get symptoms. However, if there were no symptoms then there is no reason to decline.

  • Go to MS society website, they have info on there about insurance policies and a help line for advice.

Presumably this is a Friends Life contract now?

Its MS definition is one of the better ones, requiring only three months persistence of symptoms.
    Multiple sclerosis

A definite diagnosis of multiple sclerosis by a consultant neurologist.
There must be current clinical impairment of motor or sensory
function, which must have persisted for a continuous period of three
    months.
Do you have motor/sensory impairment yet?
