    Lenovo

Sony is slower, why do you pay extra £90 for that?
  • I have 2 of the 13.3" version of that Lenovo. Excellent machine, and that's a very good price.

Lenovo, it's faster and more powerful and if you really really want a 1TB drive you can always change it at a later date

Pity they've dropped the pointing stick though.

I have an old Sony Vaio and a new Lenovo G585. The Vaio is soooo much faster! Can't believe how slow the Lenovo is. It has Windows 8 so that may be part of the problem but I'm looking into getting another Vaio soon.
The keyboard on the Lenovo has a small 'enter' key and no gap between it and the number pad keys which is an issue for me as I do a lot of typing.

They both have the same processor, though the Lenovo has more RAM and the Sony has a bigger hard drive.

Personally I'd go for the Lenovo, it's not as "stylish" as the Sony but they tend to be a lot better built, also the Lenovo has a numeric keypad which the Sony does not.

The Sony also looks like a cheap knockoff of an Apple product whereas the Lenovo looks like it's meant to be like that.

Note that neither of them have a BluRay drive, which may affect your plans for watching films. The smaller hard drive in the Lenovo may also be an issue if you plan to fill it up with downloaded films.
  • I have had a Sony Vaio for nearly 3 years. It is still fast, and the battery still lasts well. This might be because I do not download anything that I do not know about, and I use the battery care function.

On the whole my Vaio is well built and works well. The only thing I would say is that I bought one with the textured mousepad and this has now worn off in the centre. Not really a problem as I tend to use a mouse these days, but just a thought.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

By the way, I suggest you go for Lenovo thinkpad series for better quality if you don't mind it style.

    Good spot, both 3210Ms but I didn't notice the 3 vs 5.

So the Lenovo gets hyperthreading and is therefore a bit faster in certain applications, as well as being cheaper, better built and not looking like a Chinese knockoff MacBook.
