Churchill Home Insurance Query

Just got a home insurance quote via Quidco and it's a very competetive premium. Just about to confirm it and was going to pay the total by CC when I noticed that they keep your credit card details and automatically renew the policy when the policy expires. I know they have to let you know and give you the option to cancel, but I'm not sure if I would want them to keep my CC details however secure their site might be. What do others think?

I wouldnt worry one for a second in respect to a company such as Churchill.
Auto renew is used by virtually all (if not all) insurance companies.
WHat are you worried about? Renewing when you dont want or your data going missing?0 -
Basically, both!0

I use Direct Line for my car insurance. First thing I say when renewing (after checking other companies premiums of course) is that I do not want them to have a continious authority on my card - they tap away at their keyboard and we agree that my renewal is done as a single payment only.
To be honest if any company did not agree to this with me I would not do business with them.0 -
I don't think their system uses a continuous authority on my card, they say that they send you a renewal notice 21 days prior and you have the option of not taking it up, it's just holding my CC details is what I'm not happy with, the only other option I can see is geting my card replaced with a new number but that's more hassle.0

sounds over the top in my opinion.
If you are that concerned just use a different insurance company however you will find the majority will kep the details.
Id be pretty sure even if you only buy for 1 year they would retain your details. Not quite sure why you are so concerned0 -

agreed. my present insurance is paid monthly by direct debit and they do not charge a service charge, yet Churchill do. I think I'll stick!0
