Hi all,

Just after some advice, im on npower's Winter Fix tariff, and it expires on the 31st March, there is an exit fee until this date.

Im not sure if i have to wait until the 31st before i can apply to a new supplier to switch, or if now is ok since it takes 4-6 weeks to switch anyway?

Does anyone have any experience of when you can switch without incurring exit fees?

Thanks,

Anthony

To play safe, find a new supplier and start the switch within their cooling off period of the end of your current contract, which is typically 10 working days.
So, you can initiate it now, as the new supplier won't do anything until the cooling off period has passed.

It takes at least 3 weeks, and more typically 4-6 weeks to switch supplier.

So applying today, just 4 working days before the end of your current deal will be fine :)

Are you switching for no very good reason?

I would submit a reading for 31st March to make sure you get the existing lower tariff until the end; then just stay penalty free until a good deal comes along, preferably with a good cashback.

April onwards should be low consumption season, so it doesn't matter so much being on a standard tariff.
