Resolving a car insurance claim before moving abroad

Hi
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Unfortunately I crashed into the back of another car in the icy January weather. I admitted liability and gave the gentleman all my details so that this could get resolved quickly. I'm due to leave the country early May to teach abroad and so I need to cancel my car insurance and sell my car by the end of April. After a number of emails to the person I crashed into regarding the claim, I still haven't heard anything from either insurance company. Can the claim still be resolved if I cancel the insurance in April? and if it's unresolved by the time I go abroad what happens? Can I still sell the car?

You will be liable for the any remaining instalment until renewal or if you paid in one go you will receive no refund of premium0

As well as the full premium there maybe cancellation charges. So even if you paid in full they may want more.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I will be seeing through my policy to the end so i'm not concerned with any cancellation fees but I am concerned about having a claim which is unresolved. Will this effect me selling my car?0

It won't affect the selling of the car, the car is yours to do what you want with. But it does seem odd that the other person hasn't sorted out the insurance claim, did he give you his insurance details, when ever I have had to use the car insurance to make a claim, it is usually sorted with in a week to take my car to a garage, then the insurance companies sort it out between themselves, it could be that he hasn't got any insurance.0

No, it won't. As long as your car is repaired and wasn't at any stage written off there's no issue with selling it.0 -

Not that strange. There are lots of people out there who just don't get around to things like this, for any number of personal reasons.0
