Credit card application and scoring...

I recently applied for a credit card for someone with bad credit, as i was discharged from BR in 2009. Much before then my score was poor, about 350, but i managed to get a contract phone and had that for about 10 months, so was hoping my score would have gone up in that time. Upon being declined, i went back to check my score and it is now in the very poor range, 250! Has the recent application caused it to drop by a hundred points?? Nothing else untoward is on my file apart from that!

A credit search can affect your file for a short period of time (generally 3-6 months) The searches generally stay on for 12 months after which they drop off. If nothing else has changed on your file then yes it was just the hard search. Your BR should fall off after 6 years so another 2 years and things should start looking up again
