I have been sent a PDF document. I am trying to copy and paste part of it to put it on a different forum on this site. Despite trying I seem unable to complete this exercise. It just does not seem to allow me to copy a PDF document. Is there an easy way around this problem please.

It has been locked to prevent copying by the originator to prevent you doing that. They don't want portions of the pdf quoted, possibly out of context.
There are ways to enable copying portions but involves password cracking.
The other method is to ask the originator if you can do it. (Preferred method)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Some PDFs files are heavily protected but the viewer does have a snapshot tool that can copy a page at a time into clipboard. Any use?Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

Here is a way to do this:
1. Go to Accessories > Snipping Tool
2. Use that to take a snapshot of the text you want to copy (you'll probably have to do it several times in sections).
3. Save each snapshot as a jpeg.
4. Go to the website https://www.free-ocr.com and upload your jpegs one by one.
5.The website will convert the images to text, and you can paste that into word.0 -
If it's only a small portion can't you just use prtscreen (use paint to select and save) and upload an image.0

You could use PDF-Xchange Viewer as your PDF reader. Clicking the OCR button creates a text overlay on the PDF file: you can then select the text you want and copy it to the clipboard. Useful to extract text content, but does not preserve the format or graphics.
Alternatively, capture the screen as Backbiter suggests. If you use PicPick as a screen capture utility, it includes the ability to capture scrolling screens, so you don't need to capture a large document in sections. The result of this capture will be a graphic, and therefore a relatively large file. You can then reduce the size by turning it back into a pdf using any pdf driver. I prefer Bullzip.0 -
If you have Adobe Acrobat, the you can split a document into separate pages or sections. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

The Posting rule says "You may not post attachments" so how do I add a part of letter on a forum sent from Monarch0

Upload the file to an online service (e.g. like Photobucket) then post the link to it in your forum post.0
