I have 463784268 DVDs

I have 14 x 456346164923147389 zeggabyte HDDs

Figured I would rip DVDs to HDD and stream them through Windows Media Player to my PS3/TV

PS3 doesn't like MKV files

I like MP4 or AVI

(sounding like Aldi comercial :o)

I'm wondering whats the best bitrate to rip a DVD at, so it wont look too degraded on 42" screen

Currently ripping to MP4 @ 1200 kb per sec - is that OK or should I crank it up a bit
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

    I wouldn't bother.

With nearly 464 million DVDs you'll have died of old age before you've made a dent in them.

If space is not a problem why not leave them as they are. The .vob files on a DVD are just MPG2 video files, they just need copying, joining and renaming to 'Wind in the willows.mpg' whatever.

I have an old program called VideoRedo Plus does this for me without time consuming recoding. 4 to 8GB per movie won't even dent your Googlesque storage facility and playback is as good as possible as video is original.

Although I don't know if PS2 plays MPEG2 files, it plays DVD if I remember so it should do MPEG2

Why bother moving files off one HDD to another HDD
The PS3 has wifi and an ethernet pot,as do many new TVs

    makes no sense

I cant even be bothered to put DVD in my PS3 (hence ripping them all to HDD) so I cant see me copy to USB everytime i want to watch something

Im ripping to mp4 x X254 x 200 kb per sec - hopefully should be near DVD
