This, which is why they're so keen for Greece, Cyprus etc to stay with the Euro no matter the long term misery for the people there.

If those nations drop out, watch the value of the Euro shoot up overnight and German exports drop.
So why don't they just leave?

Because either they're unwilling to take the inevitable short term pain of devaluation and impoverishment, or the EU / Germany will do everything possible to keep the Eurozone project intact to keep everyone moving towards a Federal Europe.

Why do they have a pervasive desire to dominate Europe all the time?

If they are so successful why don't they pull up the drawbridge and and tell us all to get stuffed?

They do have to live right next door to the French.

What advantage did Germany have over all these other nations that put them in such a powerful position? (Bearing in mind where they started from in the late 40s)

Me for one. It was pretty obvious from 2005 onwards it was all going to end in tears.
