Complain about GP/Doctor?

I like to know that when a patient complains direct to the surgery and is not happy with the outcome from this then what is the complaint procedure for?:

- NHS Doctors/GP's

- Private Doctors/GP's

How many bodies out there that deals with complaints relating to this and what are the names of these bodies?

Which is the best one to complain to?

For example when it comes to Financial there are few complaint bodies like Financial Odbudsman, OFT, Trading standards etc. It is known reading from feedback from these forums that Financial Odbudsman are a waste of time.

Ok now I hope you get the idea of what im trying to get at.

That's a bit like asking which is best, apples or oranges?

I think you'll find that the different bodies have different responsibilities.

Not sure this is a consumer rights issue, is it?

Have you an issue that needs resolution?

Look up your local PCT, as they usually have a complaints department where you can register a complaint about GP's, hospitals, dentists etc.
If you get nowhere with them, you can then escalate it to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. see here. http://www.ombudsman.org.uk/

ETA, you appear to be from Birmingham like me, so see here for the PCT complaints :)http://legacy.benpct.nhs.uk/listening-to-you/complaints/

    Don't be silly.

You are effectively saying "everything is a consumer issue".

I did say " consumer rights".

Have you thought about posting your request on the health board?

    Or perhaps the Moneysavers Arms.

With a GP the first place to start with a complaint is the practice manager but you may have already done this?

Have you tried PALS and asked their advice? (Patient Liaison and Advice Service) They can be helpful and may be able to advise the best route to follow.

The PCTs are to be abolished next Sunday to be replaced by CCG's run by GP's. I suspect the complaints mechanisms will be next to useless.
