Insurance searches on your credit report

Just checked my noddle report, and it shows 4 separate searches by insurance type brokers towards the end of February. Now My insurance was due for renewal on March 14th 2013, and i was really happy with my renewal quote from my existing supplier, so phoned up and accepted this over the phone. I pay my insurance in a lump sum, not by monthly payments, and have done no searches for other quotes. Ive had several emails telling me i am due, and to get quotes from them, but ignored them.

Have other insurance companies been checking my credit history without my authorisation to pre-empt a quotation?/ Is this legal??

What is the reference with the searches? Are they credit searches, or are they identity/address checks?

Its good if its not visible by anyone else, I still think its very cheeky of them to do one, just because its your renewal date, without you actually asking for a quote! There is just a big long number in the search reference. Surely they should ask if you want a quote, before doing a check??

You may have moved since the last quote. Would you prefer they write to the people that moved into your old place?

How much info do they give them about you to do a quote?

I would prefer for them to mind there own business, and only search you if you ask for a quote! Theres no need to do a search on someone when you haven't enquired about doing business with them!

    Marketing :)

You enquired last year. Im sure in the smallprint somewhere that nobody reads is will mention about keeping your name on file for future quotes.

Honestly how many people read all that just to get a quote?
