What's the latest you can leave it to switch gas suppliers?

Can you do it the day before or is there a cut off point?

Basically our price plan (fixed) with BG ends on 31 March, so we have 8 days remaining.
Is it too late to switch to another provider or can you do it right up until the last minute?

    It's never too late.
When a current price plan ends, you are usually put onto the supplier's standard tariff, which costs you a bit more than the plan you were on, but has no penalties for leaving.
Switching typically takes 4-6 weeks, so you'll have that amount of time on the standard tariff. You can safely select a new supplier before the end of your current tariff - just do it within the "cooling off" period for the new supplier, which is generally 10 working days. The current supplier won't be approached by the new supplier until that time has lapsed.

They don't turn off the gas at the end of your minimum term contract!
