Is this classed as cancelled or declined insurance ?

I'm asking on behalf of a friend
they got a insurance quote which was accepted and the policy starts next month , then a few days later they received the policy paperwork and a separate letter saying it was being cancelled this was because a claim was made in 2010 when the database was checked ,which was genuinely missed off as it they thought it was 4 years ago not 3
The question is now he is getting new quotes its asking "has a policy ever been refused of cancelled" , should this box be ticked ?
This is the part of the letter we are confused about...
"Your policy is being treated as cancelled from inception, this means there has been no contract between you and us"
Any help appreciated

Its usually 5 years fo any claims or incidents even where no claim has been made.
Have you had a policy cancelled/declined then the answer is yes.
Use brokers or contact the companies directly and dont use comparison websites. You get to explain the situation then and see what they say.
Record the call or get it in writing if they say it doesnt count. That will cover you if they later change their mind or the person your talking to got it wrong.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
thanks,
i think they said it was 3 years on the quote it asked for, i guess my question is the wording "Your policy is being treated as cancelled from inception, this means there has been no contract between you and us"
i take it as saying it never existed in the first place ?
Will advise them to ring insurance company to see if its been logged as cancelled or declined0
