Existing debts when applying for credit card

Obviously when you apply for a credit card the credit card issuer considers your existing debts.
My question is - do they consider different debts, differently?
For example - will my mortgage and secured loan impact on my credit check or do they mainly concentrate on only unsecured commitments?
