I have tried to download this from the link mentioned but I still can't get Money to run. I've tried using further links from the same website regarding a patch but that hasn't worked.

I'm not very computer literate at the best of times & I'm struggling with Windows 8 so it is probably user error....

I have downloaded the Money application as it has appeared in my download list as Money2005-UK-QFE2 & I've tried uninstalling it (successful) & re-downloading (same problem). I keep going round in circles whereby Money tells me it is installing (after I've clicked the I agree box on the licence agreement) & all I need to do is click Finish to end installation, but on doing this nothing seems to happen & I can't "find" it anywhere!

I've tried using the Programme Compatibility Checker which has helpfully told me the Money programme is incompatible, but then suggests things I don't understand so I'm reluctant to try. Other people appear to have got this free download to work with Windows 8.

Any ideas how I can get the darn programme to run?

Thanks in advance & hope. From the girl who is now wishing she had checked that her lovely new notebook had a disc drive so she could install Money from her cherished disc...Genuinely never occurred to me that it wouldn't have a disc drive. Go on, laugh :rotfl:
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

I can export my statements into CSV and QIF formats and I'd like to start tracking my spending.
Will any of the above cope with these formats?

It looks like I'd have to download my statements and then import them into the program.
If I do that, will it remember previous imports and sort out duplicates (if I download the same day twice for example)?

It looks like I'd have to download the statements and import them into whatever program I choose to install. I've spoken to Halifax and they don't actually fully support any 3rd party products like this.
Does anyone know of any banks that would allow automated download of statements/transactions into this type of program?

  • I am a long term user of Microsoft Money. Yes, it's a bit old now but does most of what I want. The problem is, parts of it are starting to creak a bit now that Microsoft have stopped their support.

So, I've decided to bite the bullet and develop my own version. I'm hoping to launch it for testing in the next few weeks. Amongst other things it will import Money files in one go, avoiding the need for time consuming data re-entry.

Take a look at the website and register your interest or leave a message here : moneymojo.co.uk

Particularly interested to hear what features of Money you like best so I can prioritise the features for first launch.

If the minimal state of your website is anything to go by I think you've jumped the gun a bit asking people to comment. Perhaps you should go away and do some work first.
  • i understand your comment. i know the contact website is a bit undercooked at the moment. I'm Working flat out on the application. For those who are interested, key features at launch will include: automatic single button press import from money files (including accounts, categories, transactions, scheduled transactions/bills, budgets, investments - transactions and prices), import transactions from banks using ofx format and match against entered transactions, download share prices, reconciliation, forecasting, reports and charts.

I'm still using Ms Money 2001, have to enter the shareprices/currency rate manually though, I do this every couple of weeks but I also have a excel spreadsheet with a yahoo finance addin for when I want an up to date share price picture.

Tried a few of the open source money apps but they're too US focused for my likely and don't have a look/feel like MS Money

    My ideal replacement would be:-
*Free - can get by with a spreadsheet so not looking to buy
*A similar account look to MS Money
*Can be setup easily to be UK focused
*Can easily integrate share prices for sources from at least on source like yahoo, google - a plugin design maybe a good enhancement (if one feed goes down then there's still a backup)
    *Has currency price feed
*Plugin for special accounts, for example, my employer each year offers a share save scheme, the share price is in euros, we pay in pounds, the terms can be complicated with income tax, capital gains etc.. to take into account. The variables in all this are the share price, currency rate, no of shares, brought price and brought at currency rate. With a plugin I'd see as passing in these variables from the application/share feed, entering a calculation to workout the value and present it as an account. The plugin account could be setup by the user and exported to be shared with other users
    *import/export of plugins
