M&S wedding cake

Hi all,
I'm due to get married and I was considering doing my own cake just because the price I think for cakes is crazy.

I was either thinking of getting m&s cakes and stacking , putting lace & pearls around it and then some fresh flowers on too from the florist.... Or i was going to buy polystyrene circles and cover is icing and do completely fake.

Just wondered if anyone else has done either of these and how simple is it? X

    I've been Money Tipped!
a week before my wedding my cake maker collapsed and was in hospital. so i had a mad rush to m&s hoping they had the cakes on the shelf.
    luckily they did!
i just stacked them on top of each other and i added a thick band of red ribbon around the bases of the 3 cakes.
i managed to get my toppingfrom the cake makers husband (bless her she was insistant that he brought it round to me, she felt so guilty!) and plonked that on top, it was a display that matched my flowers.

it resulted in a lovely looking cake, simple, but thats the wedding i went for so perfect.

the only fault was that we actualy forgot to cut it!

Thanks! So did you find the m&s ones easy to assemble? I was worried that would struggle getting off the cake board properly!

Did you have to put anything sturdy in to hold up or anything?

It's just the logistics of it I worry about and then getting it wrong! X

if i remember rightly we stuck some dowels in to 'connect' the cakes and apparently stop them sinking into each other - father in laws idea, im not sure if they needed them or not!
yes they cake off the board really easy, i just ran a long thin knife underneath to make sure it wasnt stuck in any part.

btw, i dont like cake but everyone who eat some said it was delicious

  • I had a wedding cake from M&S, two sponge cakes which stacked on top of each other perfectly fine, then a cake topper and my own decorations.

I didn't get to try the cake but the guests said it was delicious.

I had m and s cupcakes with a small m and s wedding cake (sponge one) on top to cut. It worked really well and I think it only cost about £70 all in - cupcake stand (off eBay) cupcakes, cutting cake, topper and decorations.

Not sure how easy it was to set up as venue did it, but it looked good and tasted great!

Don't do fake, just nix the cake altogether.

M&S sell the little wooden dowels and have a great video on how to 'build' your cake.
rather annoyingly I can't find the M&S one.. but this will show you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xk4nEN_1BM
