Sigmared - finally admitted defeat

Hello Guys.. and girls.
Need some advice.. I had a contract with t-mobile that was disputed mid term about 5 years ago now.. cut a long story short t-mobile sent me an email saying they would end the contract without penalty on such a date. 2 years later I hear from this debt collection company (sigma red) saying I owe £1,019 from an account with t-mobile.. it turns out t-mobile closed the account but did not update the financial side of their business so a debt was carried through.
I pleaded and pleaded with sigma red stating the contract was terminated and provided them with the email as proof. Their reps on the phone did not listen to a word I said so I gave up. I have now approached sigma red again but this time got all the directors home addresses and personal mobile numbers.. I called 1 director on his mobile and told him my story, whilst using a threatening tone.. he immediately informed a member of staff who is now going to remove the debt and the adverse credit history.
What I wish to know is I sent sigma red the evidence 3 years ago and it has taken them till now to follow up.. in the mean time I have struggled to get credit. Can I sue sigma red in any way? What are their responsibilities when it comes to these types of things?
This is a very interesting thing to get answers on as I believe it will be something occurring more often as time passes,
If anyone knows please give us a shout,
Thanks all

Trying to sue would be risky, because if you lose it could cost you a fortune in costs.
Has been done a few times though. Mostly the companies settle to avoid court.

Thanks fermi,
I would love to think in a case like this a judge would throw the book at them and a very strong example would be made at every given opportunity, this is whats happening to mobile phone companies who end up in court.. Judges are sick to death of them.
I may open a case against them and see how they respond0
