Scrapping Car
Hi
My car failed its MOT this week quite badly due to rusting underneath and have been advised its probably best to scrap it.
Its now parked in a private car park where i live and is still insured and taxed. I have rung a few scrap companies to try and get one to come and collect it but its probably not going to be able to be collected for a few days.
There is a few months tax on it which i will claim back, but do i have to SORN it or do i just sell it on the V5 form to the scrap company?
Its not going to be driven anywhere now but do i have a certain number of days to get it scrapped?
Just concerned that legally i only get a certain number of days to sort it out after the failed MOT.
Thanks for any help
Dave

Don't panic , a good scrapping company will do ALL the paper work .
Don't think SORN,
If the car is taxed / insured it can sit on private car park for weeks .0 -
My experience is that as long as car is taxed and insured you do not require sorn if not you have 14 days leeway to sorn.
Scrap yard prices here are circa £100 payment for car.
When collected keep road tax and appropriate part of v5 and send back to DVLA for refund. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
When you do scrap it make sure you receive a certificate of destruction.0

If it is a proper scrapping company make sure you get the certificate of destruction.
If it is one of those p*key scrap cars wanted collectors that advertise in the small ads, fill in the V5 and send it off yourself in the same way as if you were just selling to a private buyer. Don't just be tempted to hand it all over.0 -

This is what I would be doing, why pay a middle man to do it for you when you can have all the cash for yourself. An alternative to scrapping it would be to bung it on ebay as spares or repair, include a copy of the fail sheet and it may be be bought as a doer upper.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

Exactly. Photocopies? Worrying about who you're selling it to?
It doesnt have to be an autobreaker either, mines go to the local scrap metal merchant.
Take all the paranoia and worry out the situation.
OR - get it on ebay quick on a 3 day auction with an honest description and listing everything it failed on. Dont mention the tax and make sure you remove it from the car before someone comes to collect. (as has been suggested already. doh!)0
