Hi
I am going to be buying a flat soon that has a communal heating system. Was just wondering if anyone could give me any info on it. Is it cheaper? How comparable is it to that of a regular bill? its a new build and the salesman mentioned a £30 monthly charge for it. If i remember that's on top of whatever your usage is. Will phone tomorrow to get the finer details (haven't reserved it yet but plan on doing so in 2 weeks) but £30 before anything added seems a lot to me, especially seeing as its a 2 bedroom flat with only me and the missus living there. Can we expect a hefty bill?
Thank you

Communal heating schemes are not usually metered per property. You pay a flat rate s/c and you can use as much as you like. If that were the case, it would be a steal at £30pm.
You need to find out more about how it works and what is included (and not included), and how it is measured. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Usually the total cost of providing such energy is divided equally amongst the users . I would take the suggestion of £30pm with a very large pinch of salt, but perhaps get your solicitor to get the seller/builder to put such monthly cost in writing.
Either way, your solicitor should look into whatever the arrangement is and explain it to you0
