Short Term Buildings/Contents Insurance

Hi, I've just sold a house and my home insurance expires next week. The renewal was ridiculous anyway! I hope the sale will be complete withing 2 months so I need to insure the home for a short term. Is there such a think as short term home insurance? I have no future property so transferring after the house sale is completed is not an option. Thanks

You could get some quotes and chose one with a low cancellation fee.

Be aware that some companies will not take on a property as new business that is on the market or in the process of being sold - check with individual insurers.

If you can't get cover elsewhere you might find that the best option is to continue with the existing policy (even if it is expensive) and cancel when the sale is complete.

If you pay monthly you need to cancel the policy and the direct debit when required. If you pay in full you would normally get a pro rata refund for time not used.

There will usually be a cancellation / admin fee - check your policy docs for this.
