The bank helps its self to £25 of your money just because as direct debit could not be collected on a given day,. The direct debit could be for as little as £1 and the bank takes £25

For what administrative inconvenience exactly.

You agreed to those Terms and Conditions when you opened the account

I assume you mean "£25 unpaid item fee" as it would be called.

Don't forget you could also be charged by the originator for a failed DD. Some CCs for example charge £12 for a failed DD + the bank charges anything between £15 - £35.

But you agree to these charges when you open the account.

You did read the paperwork first before signing, didn't you?
  • Some banks charge £8 on there basic accounts so I hear simply put SWITCH NOW. Do it without delay.

You'll have big difficulty finding a bank that doesn't charge similar amounts for transactions that failed because the account holder has mismanaged their account.

    Far off the mark....

Natwest, Barclays and Lloyds TSB charge between SIX and TEN pounds for the same transgression.

Yorkshire Bank charge £35 for some transgressions!

  • I'll bet if the OP was a small businessman and the situations were reversed with a payment due to them having failed, then they'd think that £25 "compensation" for time/aggro/whatever in sorting out a re-request was insultingly low.

Are we not talking about the 'middle man'? The biggest cheek of it is when they charge you for NOT doing something!!!

In what way is it 'as (sic) massive scandal'? It'll be in the T&Cs, if you don't like them bank elsewhere. If you didn't read them, more fool you.
