Debit card through Worldpay - a big error?

I'm starting to get a bit concerned re' an item I've ordered online (650 Pounds in value). Delivery is late and although I've no specific evidence that something's wrong with the company, I'd like to know if I've made a mistake in the manner in which I paid and do I have any protection.
On the company's site, when I was given payment options, the only ones were a cheque or a card. I chose my Visa debit card (mistake #1?) and the transaction then went through WorldPay who I've never used before.
My question therefore is, if I decide I've hung on long enough and want a refund, have I made it difficult or impossible to avail myself of any 'rights' by:- 1. Using my debit card and not my CC & 2. Using WorldPay, who it appears provide no protection to consumers in the way that PayPal does?
Thanks.

WorldPay offer merchant services to business' - they are a legit company but unlike the likes of PayPal are not party to any contract with you as the consumer - merely a platform for the retailer to process the payment to the retailers merchant account. So if you do not receive the goods you can ask your bank to instigate a chargeback, so you do have a level of protection. Although for large online purchases it is more secure to use CC (for goods > £100), as unlike debit card, the CC are equally liable if the transaction goes wrong.
WorldPay isn't usually the scammers choice of gateway though tbh.
Contact the company and see what they say though, before trying to initiate a chargeback (plus I believe some banks ask you wait a certain period before filing one for goods not received) - which imo is reasonable and responsible.0 -
Thanks so much for the response. I'm not familiar with 'Chargeback', so will have a look at how it operates. Don't think I'm the victim of a scammer, just a somewhat lazy/poor service retailer.
Thanks again for the help & advice.0 -

I've used worldpay frequently without problem. The problem is, as you suggest, with the retailer not the payment organsation.0

I use Worldpay regularly with no problems, BIG probelms at the moment site has been down all afternoon.0

Worldpay is an RBS company.
The real issue is that a reversal or chargeback should not succeed as this can only take place if the beneficiary of the funds is also the Merchant.
If you pay via an intermediary (Worldpay and PayPal are two examples of this) then these rights fall, and are not appropriate. There were some noises mad a year or so ago to end this gotcha, but it never materialised. In cases like these only the vendor can authorise or agree to refund.0
