How about antibiotic resistance and a longer expected working life? Not to mention rationed NHS services?

How exactly is the future promising? I don't see any growth coming any time soon nor do we have North Sea oil to bail us out like it did with the boomers, not t mention excessive house prices, 1 trillion state debt and 500% GDP total debt.

I thought you were off to UAE why worry.

As Clapton has pointed out, some possibilities on the horizon and the chancellors friends - inflation, devaluation. A dose of import duty might be helpful on "luxury" tat.

500% debt GDP? PS Pension liabilities are and will continued to be squeezed it can't all be done over night - benefits reduced, collection point extended, contribution increased they are long term liabilities.squeezed it can't all be done over night. PFI? Conservatives know what they are doing, apparently, so any new ones will be much better;)

That graph isnt total debt grizzly though is it? Its public debt, its not total debt, which has already passed 500%

Clapton, wish it wasnt the case, unfortunately according to many on here and also the politicians, we were supposed to be well over the worst of it. I am willing to bet things will get marginally better, then the real pain will come 2-3 years into the next electoral term, when the markets start to turn their backs on the UK.

Fracking will only provide extra cash if the NIMBY boomers shut their overfed cake-holes and allow development.

I made no reference to UK fracking.

My point is that fracking will produce a WORLD WIDE glut so reducing the price of gas and oil for all.

Oh yep, plenty of those too.

But also plenty of NIMBY boomers who need to shut their overfed cakeholes.

Aren't you somewher Cotswoldy hardly likely to affect you with earthtremors and potential water table pollution. This isn't some desolate part of America. We can't burn coal but we can push noxious sludge about.

They have a right to voice their concerns IMO.

It will go ahead anyway if it is that critical and profitable.

I find this a rather ironic comment "inflation and growth" is fundamental to capitalism and a consequence of the accumulation of wealth and profit. I do believe in that system but when I was younger accumulating wealth was very low on my agenda. The younger generations are far more driven to accumulate wealth as far as I can see.

Inflation and growth are not fundamental to capitalism, they are fundamental to the kind of capitalism we currently have. The only real purpose of inflation and growth is to reduce debt as a % of GDP so that we can have more debt and more growth. As for the younger generation seeking to accumulate wealth, this is impossible due to the current state of the economy. They may be more interested in accumulating consumer goods but that is the complete opposite.

If your generation X live shorter lives than the boomers it will be because they have made unwise and unhealthy choices.

To date your generation X have, overall, enjoyed a higher standard of living than boomers at comparable ages.

Whilst the current times are somewhat difficult, the future is very promising and there are plenty of reasons for optimism.

Or their parents made unwise and unhealthy choices for them.
