Listings being repeatedly copied!

Sorry if this turns into a rant but does eBay ever remove listings or the photos from listings, when another Seller has copied the first Seller's photo, pics or both?

I remember a time when you could click the report item link on a listing and report the copyright and eBay would actually contact the seller and have the pic removed.

All of my pictures have my business name watermarked across them, quite obviously too.

When I report other sellers now, nothing happens to their listing. So I am cuurently on hold to eBay (again in the Philipines)...

Apparently they can not do anything and I have to use the 'report item' link to report the listing being copied. When I have done this to the last few sellers, their listings continue to stay the same, with no alterations at all, sometimes for a few weeks! Grrrr.

Is it worth me contacting the other seller and politely asking them to refrain from using my pic or is that likely to open a can of worms (i.e. my items being maliciously bid on, etc).

  • I have had this problem several times. Ebay used to remove these quickly when reported but now dont seem to care - I reported several people recently and nothing happened.

I politely asked one repeat offender not to use my photo and description (my item was a bit of electronics kit and I had spent time detailing exactly how it worked which took quite a while) and they stopped.

Best to use watermarks on all pictures, at least they will be advertising for you if they still use it!

I used to include pictures in the description of my items using img html tags which pointed to my own hosting. Someone copied my entire description including my hosted picture. They probably didnt realise I had control over the hosting - I changed the picture to something else... lets just say I dont think they sold very many...

I have found a few of my pics on someone else's listing and sent a message saying that if it was not removed in the next 6 hours I would report them. Must have scared them because when I looked next it had gone.

So you have opted out of letting other sellers using your pictures?
