Prepay Gas - paying too much?

I make those figures 302 kWh over the period (1724-1697=27x11.2=302) so not totally unreasonable.
Whoops. my calculation error.
But that still is about 10kWh every hour. Our boiler is only 10kW and it certainly doen;t run flat out 15 hours a day.
Furthermore, 151kWh per day would only cost just over £200 a month (not £300). Not bad if the OP is burning 151kWh of gas per day.0 -
The meters usually take the standing charge for the meter, and any debt what is owed at 01.00am on a Tuesday morning, the reason for this timing is because, most pensions and benefits used to be paid out on a Monday, and most people bought there gas and electricity or put money in the meter on a Mondaay. This is in the days when you had books that you took into the post office, to get your money, they still haven't changed from those days, so it might be worth taking a reading on the Monday evening then again on the Tuesday morning to see how much has been deducted.0

The 'standard' tariffs are never the cheapest though, and we aren't given the option to pay monthly by direct debit for instance (which is normally cheaper).
E.g. EDF 'Standard Variable' which we're on is 26.25p per day standing charge, with a 4.245p uni charge.
Looking at their 'Blue Price Promise', which has no termination fees and is fixed until June next year (so I'd imagine not even the cheapest, just picked as it's the recommended one on their site) - gas in my area is the same standing charge, with a 3.969p unit charge.
That's not a massive difference, but would add up, especially with the amount we seem to spend! Other providers beat the 3.969 unit charge too
I didn't say the were. Standard tariff is however what about 70% of residential customers are on.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I was always told it was 2am - but this could be BST/GMT.
However, debt is normally recovered when you top up, not from the credit on the meter, and it looks to recover it from the first top up after Wednesday 2am (be that Wednesday or the next Monday)0
