Named driver affecting main driver's no claims?

Hey everyone,

After searching the net for some answers (of which i found none) i came accross this forum and was hoping someone could help me out?

I'm a 17 year old driver.... who has been driving for 10 months now.... I have my own car with my own policy (Suzuki Jimny) and are also a named driver on my dads policy (Ford Puma 1.6). I dont drive his car regularly, probably once or twice a week but last week i was involved in an accident (my first) in my dads car which will go down as my own fault.

Now.. it seems they are going to declare the car a total loss... what i am wondering is... i know this willl affect my no claims on my policy for renewal (not that i had any anyway) but how will this affect my dad? The insurance know its my fault and i am paying for my excess on the car on a deduction in money we get returned but will this cause my dad to lose his no claims? Also does declaring a total loss (with Norwich Union) end my dads policy? or will they keep it open for when he gets a new car, which will be the same model presumably.

It will be a claim against you dad's policy so his NCB will be affected.

However when you renew your insurance, whilst your NCB on that policy will still apply, you will have to declare the accident you had which will result in them loading your premium

If your dad has protected no claims on his policy then it should not be affected surely
