Refund made to a cancelled card

Hi All

A little whilst back my card was fraudulently used and eventually cancelled by the bank and a replacement recieved. Prior to this I ordered something online and subsequently returned it for refund. They have done this but obviously the card I paid on is no longer valid........ the refund hasnt hit my bank account. Who do I need to talk to on this, will the money be in limbo somewhere so the bank can sort it? Will the retailer get an alert to tell them the funds couldnt be transfered? Do I need to speak to them?

Help

If the the cancelled card was linked to your bank account, normally the refund has to find it's way to this account.

I would suggest contacting your banks and asking them, if they can help as only they will really know.

Also how long ago was the refund done?

As long as the actual account is still open, the refund will find its way to you. Credits can even be processed on expired cards.

    Is this Barclays?

I would suggest you contact your banks debit card fraud department and explain that a REFUND to card number XXXX is due to that debit card number. If the refund has DEFINITELY been sent then a payment into your old debit card number will be with the bank. For some reason or other they may not have automatically put it onto your account although as stated ALL debit cards are linked to an individual account and so long as it is still open then the money should get there eventually!!!

Refunds do not require authorisation. As such will go through to the bank on the old card details and hit a internal account. This will then be worked and passed to the bank account.
A lot of banks work these manually, so as such can take a few days to be processed.
So go no where near VAU.

OP just talk to your bank and the fraud team. They will be the ones that can sort this in the quickest time as they will know all of these internal account numbers and be able to trace the payment.

I assumed that refunds to old cards work in the same way debits from old cards. The other week next processed a refund back to my old debit card and the refund was applied to back to my account the very next day.

Advice was check my account Monday if its still not landed call them and they will put me through. Hopefully they will be able to reunite me with my cash.

I am sure this will turn up as per usual in your current account. Given the old card was stopped fraudulently the bank may check each transaction linked to it before posting it yo your account. But I have not doubt you will get the money
