computer on go slow !!

hi, wondering if anyone can help, my pc is on a total go slow. it is taking ages to boot and function at all, a simple click could take mins/hours to open the program. i have booted in safe mode and it has brought a huge improvement, it runs nearly perfect, still a little slow every now and then. can anyone recommend what the problem might be ?

Have you defragged the hard drive and run Ccleaner recently?

There maybe a load of programmes running at start up you could disable, you can review those on Cclener when you have done the above housekeeping.

What anti-virus have you got installed?

we had the same problem so we removed all the free virus/malware protection and the garmin updater and things are running much better.

we have McAfee software with our BT set up

sounds like you havent defragged you machine for a while or malware.
i would download links below on clean machine if you have then put on cd or usb key.

boot up in safe mode
1. defrag machine leave it on overnight if need be

2. ccleaner run normal scan then clear out the lot.

3. then within ccleaner second tab down registry scan and clean.

4. malwarebytes download update defs run full scan.

when done all of this then boot up and update your antivirus run full scan and you should be back to running to normal speed and remember update defs on progs and run scans regularly

also note for chrissyg malware can be one of the worst offenders for slowing machines down what happens is people don't update their definitions and actually run a scan at all the free versions dont run themselves.
I know this by example as my sister swore black is blue she had, when i checked the details it hadn't been updated or scans run in over a year when i last done it and then had to sort the mess out and low and behold its was full of malware and as if by magic my sisters words "oh its like new again" surprise surprise!

Tell us what OS you are running for a start, and how much RAM is installed. Make and model helps. And which AV program?
If it runs better in Safe Mode, then that indicates that it is not a hardware fault.

Post a DDS log - it should take 2-3 minutes. Normal mode would be best, but if not, do it in safe mode.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:

• Double click DDS to run it.
• When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:

1. DDS.txt
2. Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop.

Copy & paste the contents of both DDS.txt & attach.txt and post them here (you may need to split the logs over separate posts)

You don't look to have an antivirus installed??

You've lots of crapware in there along with insecure programs and running uTorrent - all without an AV it seems?

Uninstall these:

Adobe Reader X (10.1.1)
Ask Toolbar
iLivid
Java 7 Update 9
Java Auto Updater
Java(TM) 6 Update 29
Searchqu Toolbar
TornTV
TVersitybar Toolbar
uTorrentBar Toolbar
Windows iLivid Toolbar
Yontoo 1.10.03


After all those are removed,

Download AdwCleaner from the link below & save it to your desktop.

Then,

• Double click AdwCleaner.exe to run it.
• Click Delete.
• Click OK to the prompt.
• The tool will run & your computer will be rebooted automatically. A logfile will open after the restart.
• Post the contents of the logfile with your next reply.
• You can also find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[s1].txt.

Then,


Download aswMBR from the link below & and save it to your Desktop.

LINK

• Double click aswMBR.exe to run it.
• Click YES to the prompt to download Avast virus definitions
• When the virus definitions have downloaded, click the Scan button.
• Wait till the scan reports "Scan finished successfully"
• Click Save log & save the log to your desktop.
• Click OK
• Two files will be created, aswMBR.txt & a file named MBR.dat
• Click EXIT.
• Copy & Paste the contents of aswMBR.txt into your next reply.

Don't click to fix anything, just post the log.
