Ditching storage heater for electric blanket?

  • I wouldnt trust using a hot water bottle with it switched on though. I also know a firefighter who has gone to houses where the electric blankets although save to use when in bed have overheated. I though he was joking, but unfortunately he wasnt. He said its up to me, and for my peace of mind, i switch it off, plus it saves on electric, which is what i need to do.

Well, part of getting the blanket for us, was to move away from making a hot water bottle. The hot water bottle offered too poor heat distribution, and most of the heat was wasted as we would usually end up kicking it out due to the concentrated heat.

We planned to use the blanket all night, but have found it to be too hot even at its lowest setting, so we are now switching it off before sleep. It is only on for about and hour each night, so it is costing even less than I thought!
  • Its what works for you and im glad you have found whats right. Theres only me. Wrapped in my trackies, dressing gown, socks, and hogging the hot water bottle. Theh i get too hot haha :D

I spent about £50 on an electric blanket but it has really been worth it.

    > 1 - 6 settings (6 being quick heat)
    > Can leave on all night (apart from 6)
    > Area control
    > Less than 1p all night (on setting 1) (not actually tested this)
    > Timer for 1 hour or 9 hours so it'll turn off automatically.

    They are worth it.

Sounds exactly like the blanket I have. Was able to drop the heater down another level last night, no noticable complaints yet! :D
