Borrowdale Gates is surely one of the most beautifully located hotels in the Lake District. Surrounded by first-class fellwalking country and secluded in two acres of peaceful, wooded grounds, this Victorian country house is a picture frame for the beauty of the Borrowdale Valley, celebrated by Wainwright as '...the loveliest square mile in Lakeland.'

1. The free night must be taken within 12 months, subject to availability. Excludes bank holidays and school holidays.
2. The closing date for entries will be noon on 1st April 2013. The prize cannot be used in conjunction with any other special breaks or promotions such as Christmas, Gourmet Weekends etc.
3. One prize winner will be selected and will receive a 2 Free Nights for 2 + Dinner on 1 Night for them and a guest.
4. The stay is open to a maximum of two adults sharing a double room.
5. The winner is responsible for their travelling costs to and from the hotel.
6. There is no purchase necessary to enter Best Loved Hotels contests. To enter, individuals must be recipients of Best Loved Hotels e-newsletters. Only one entry per subscriber is valid.

How do you sign up for their e-newsletters? I've searched their webpages and found nowhere to register. This is needed as it's one of the terms of the competition that we should be signed up.

Well, it does say

"All entrants in the contest will be added to our Best Loved community databases and agree to receive timely offers on hotels, theatre and other relevant travel experiences. You can opt out at any time, though we hope you will continue to find them useful and valuable."

However, I never actually received anything from them until I telephoned them and asked to be manually added to the list. I assumed that other people were automatically receiving the emails and I'd just been overlooked.

No, I've never received any emails from them either, though I've entered lots of the comps. I might ring them up as well. Thanks.
