I own a .com domain name. Which is dormant. I have received an unsolicited email asking if I want ot sell it.
The person who wants it obviously went out of their way to find the owner
Obviously I will be cautious about getting the money, but how do I actually go about transferring ownership.
Typed in transfer domin in google Aah!!
Any advice much appreciated

Not 100% sure on this but this is my understanding of it.
The person or company that is buying it from you needs to have an account with the same company that you bought it from.
Say for example you registered the domain through 1&1, they register an account with 1&1 as well.
Then you simply contact 1&1 and ask them to transfer it over to the new owner.
Ask the company that you registered it with for advice. I'd like to know for sure as well.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Best way of trading like this is using Escrow: http://escrow.com
It provides an online Escrow service, it's widely used and very safe. This way you ensure you get your cash and the buyer will be happy in the knowledge he will get his domain.
Get the buyer to send his funds first, when Escrow notifies you they have his cash then you can transfer the name, once he gets it Escrow will transfer the funds to you.0 -

No, you can use any hosting company you tell them the name you want to transfer and they should handle the details.0 -
