Melia - Cayo Coca - Cuba - June 2013

Hi all,

My partner & I are looking to book this accommodation for 14 nights mid June. Any tips on where to book at the best price?

Would like a lagoon room, but at the standard room rate, if possible...

Anyone stayed here before? We like the idea of an adult only resort, to avoid those pesky kids!

Oh and is free wifi available? Sad I know!

I haven't been to Cuba myself although have researched as I want to go. Check the hotel reviews on Tripadvisor.

I would personally only book a package holiday travelling at that time of year, as its getting close to hurricane season, so you would have the peace of mind if anything did happen.
I think there is only Thomas cook that goes to the Cayo's, you could check on holiday hypermarket, sometimes direct holidays is a bit cheaper than Thomas Cook, even though its the same company.

You could email the hotel and ask how much it would cost to book the lagoon room direct, its usually cheaper than booking with the T.A.

Also, how does tipping work in Cuba for AI holidays?

Do you tip everytime you eat/drink, at the end of every day or just at the end of your holiday?

Could end up costing more than the actual holiday!

Just wanted to say that we went to Melia Cayo Coco in Nov 12 for 2 weeks, and couldn't recommend it enough.
The staff don't expect tips but we would give them a one bill to the member of staff - they earn a very low wage, but its been one of the only places I've been to where tips aren't forced. The exchange rate (exchange at hotel) means you don't spend that much tipping.
We went via Thomas Cook. Only issue was 5 hour delay on flight home which TC won't compensate.
I'd definitely recommend it - one of the best places we've been to.

Oh by the way, you could pay to upgrade your room to lagoon room when you arrive, although cant remember how much this was.

No wifi at all, either free or charged as Cuba doesn't have the capability of wifi. There was a computer room available - pay per 30mins I think.

This is currently available through loveholidays.com for £1049pp in June for 14 nights but also on holidaydiscountcentre.co.uk (through Wye Travel) for £879pp

Heard good things about loveholidays.com but nothing about Wye Travel (whom you have to book with over the phone)

Anyone had dealings with Wye Travel before?
