Those under 35 are entitled to LHA at the shared house rate, given most working folk 25-35 can't afford to live alone in most of the country it was a political hot potato - her income must give her suffient to pay for a room in a shared house or lodging....

I think you are a bit confused. Single people under the age of 35 have only been entitled to the shared room rate for some considerable time now.

Are you sure that her HB has only just changed?

Perhaps we could check things if you could give a few more details.

Is she in a one bed place? How long has she been there?

She could look into applying for discretionary housing payment and put her details into the Turn2us online benefit calculator to see if she's entitled to working tax credits.

other than that, her only options are to increase her income and/or decrease her expenses, or move to a cheaper property.

I recall the government expressly saying that they were going to tackle the housing benefit bill, reducing it, because it doubled under Labour's tenure. They may very well have said that they want to help those on a low income but they most definately did say that they would be reducing welfare spending.

    I agree with Bigaunty above.
It sounds as though your daughter's transitional protection has ended and now HB will only pay to the maximum of the shared room rate (which her earnings obviously exceed). She needs to check out entitlement to working tax credit, increase earnings or down-size.
