Would you buy a boiler online ?

The argument about supply or not to supply will go on, there are very valid reasons for letting the installer supply as stated above, but it does no harm in letting him know that you know the actual cost, not all installers are as honest as some of the guys on here.
Of course this is a different situation for the OP, he has a tame installer;)
There is 1 point though and it's been raised several times already, most suppliers that are still in business aren't idiots. They know that to survive they have to supply both over the counter and online. The biggest problem with shopping for a deal online is knowing who you are actually dealing with, but given such a large outlay as a boiler a phone call or 2 should at least clear that up.
I too have bought major heating items online and found them to have been supplied from plumb centre down the road.
I guess some of these outfits are simply factoring or are middlemenI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Still here.
not s hit strirring at all are we ?
& from the man with at least 3 different names on here I think thats a bit like the pot calling the kettle don't you ?
& for your info I had to change my name as the forum team didn't like it, as it brought up too many google hits,
rusty I didn't remember having that disagreement with you back then, but yes I do recommend Remeha & yes I get points (in the same way installers of glowworm are getting taken to Berlin this yr), I also get same day or next day service from the manu for my customers if they need it, all I can say is that at the time of that thread I wasn't in a very good place having just caught my misses cheating, which maybe accounts for my slightly less than mellow reply, so Rusty please accept my apoligies for back then.
Diy you know I don't give a rats a.. what you think of meI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Southcoast: you've definitely got the wrong end of the stick on this one.
Back to the topic: OP, have you made a decision one way or another? Certainly lots to think about. Do keep us in the loop, especially after all the trials and tribulations.;)0 -

Don't worry mate, no need to apologise, it was just at the time you wouldn't admit to the loyalty program you were under and were dissing me that it could come a factor into why you recommended remeha boilers ( which are good btw !) Didn't realise it was you TBH, You talk a lot of sense ( most of the time on here LOL !)
What I am trying to get over in all of this thread is that people who come on like the OP and ask if anyone has bought a boiler online, don't really factor into it that there is a different boiler for all different types of installation, one type doesn't fit all. If they have done their homework online and decided on a certain type of boiler and then bought it, then got an RGI out to fit it ( if they would as not bought from them ) The chances of that boiler actually being suitable for their installation is usually very low. If the boiler is ok , then the flue parts they have bought are wrong. They have forgot to get a filling loop,th/stat/ things like that. This will case more aggro, possible return callouts from the RGI and more callout charges.
Then factor in the extended warranty covers supplied FOC, the priority manu callouts, the 24 hour parts service, etc and this can then add up in value extras to be worth more than the discount you get from buying a boiler online.
Most consumers don't really look into these types of things. The amount of people I have had come into me and ask if I could get their internet bought gas fire fitted and when my RGI has gone out, they have bought a deep bed class 1 fire, for a 3'' depth class 2 flue, or a class 2 fire to fit into a balanced flue siting, is amazing.
Certain things like boilers, fires(gas),parts for mains elecrical supplies etc shouldn't really be available to buy online. The statistics shown to me, from 1 Manufacturer, 84% of callouts to internet bought gas fires where fitted incorrectly. Whether this was DIY fitted or unaccreditted RGIs fault couldnt be substantiated. One case was where someone had fitted a gas fire with a garden hose and jubilee clips as a gas pipe !
An RGI, one off installer, can give you so much more in return for that little extra cost, which isn't really an extra cost when you factor in additional charges he will make , to make up his margin loss on a boiler.0
