Newbie commuter to Manchester from Wigan!!

Options
Hi everyone,

I have just accepted a new job in Manchester which involves me travelling along the Wigan line into Manchester Oxford Road each day.

I am aware of System One Travelcards i.e. http://www.systemonetravelcards.co.uk but wondered if there were any easier ways of travelling in, say from Gathurst, or indeed at other local stations that would save me time and money?

The travelcard can also be used on buses anywhere in Greater Manchester so it seems a great deal for £807 per annum, but I just wondered if there was anything that I'd overlooked.

I spoke with National Rail enquiries about travelling from Earlestown, which is easier to get back to after work but no travelcard exists for this journey because I'd be travelling between two counties.

Thanks in advance.
