Hi I wonder if someone can advise me please. Something strange seems to have happened to my home page. I use ie but when I click on the ie button the page that comes up looks like the google chrome page. It looks completely different. I cant see the favourites bar across the top nor can I see the favourites star on the left. Does anyone know what I can do to get it back to how it used to be as I haven t done anything to change it. Hope this makes sense. Thank you

I don't use IE but I do know that the last round of MS updates included an upgrade to IE to version 10.
I've just brought up IE and the star which brings up a favourites pane is over on the right.
Help/About will show which version of IE you are running.0 -

Hi it was supposed to be ie8 but I liked the favourites bar showing across the top as I found it easier. Don't know how it changed on its own0 -
What version is it then? If it's 10 then somebody updated it. I don't even think it's a default update you need to select it - at least I did.0

Move your cursor to the top where the menu bar used to be, then right click your mouse, click on favourites bar (Favorites) tab in the scroll menu.
Click on the screen to close that and the bar should be back at the top.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -

Yes well that's what I thought. I did nt update it and I m the only one who uses this laptop. It reminds me of the google chrome set up. I don't know where to see what version it is that I have.0 -

Yes thank you that worked so ive got my menu bar back and I clicked on the tools icon and internet explorer and it seems ive got ie10 but id rather ie80 -
Well I'd let it update to 9 from 8 ages back. It could be that upgrading from 8 became mandatory rather than optional as the 9 - 10 upgrade was. Microsoft made parts of IE common with parts of Windows (probably a cynical ploy to fob off legislation which required them to offer alternate browsers) so it could well be that when patching yet another security loophole they had to junk a chunk of code that IE8 needed.
You should be able to get it looking something like you want as muckybutt suggested. I can't help there as I don't use IE but posters here and google should certainly be able to.0 -
Ive just updated to ie10 from 8, took a day or so to get used to it but have to say its faster for me than 8 was.
I had problems when I updated to 9 so uninstalled it and went back to 8, I cant remember how the hell I did it though, no doubt another techie will be able to tell you how to roll it back to the pre upgrade date if you really want to go back to 8.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
